When it comes to the new books I’m writing and have written, I’m pretty candid about the fact that I’ve entered into a new space where people aren’t familiar with me. A space where I’m learning as I go once again.
Being a newbie isn’t new to me. I’ve created so many things in my short time on this planet, ha. And while starting over always comes with some challenges, I’m having fun working through them and problem-solving!
Embarrassment and Failure
I understand that sometimes we don’t want to change course for fear of judgment from our peers. And that fear is real. I’m pivoting publicly, running a public Kickstarter campaign, and sharing my struggles here week after week. This brings judgment for sure, and yeah, I do feel weird about it sometimes. But it also attracts those who do like what I’m doing and do understand the emotions I write about here. I know in time, all will balance out. Sometimes the road to peace is lined with bumps and potholes, ha.
Let’s Talk About Sunk Cost Fallacy
Holding on to past connections, work, directions, or people can be a symptom of “sunk cost fallacy”. Meaning when we feel like we’ve sunk a bunch of money or time into something or someone, we scramble to hold onto it, even when it no longer serves us. This is why we cling to long-running relationships, even when they’ve soured, or we stay at a toxic job that we ‘worked so hard’ to get.
Time ticks forward no matter what we choose to do with it. So, would you rather continue doing what’s familiar, even at the expense of yourself? Or will you accept the time spent, let go, and move forward without the burdens of your past?
Life can become rote and stagnant when you’re in the same place, doing the same work, and going through the same routine day in and day out. You can always add a little ✨spice✨ and do something totally new! And remember, failure isn’t embarrassing. It’s commendable. It means you tried.
Giveaway!
I released a new magical girl-themed self-care coloring book through Ulysses Press! It’s a collaboration between myself and artist Venus Bambisa.
I’ll be giving two away—one to a free subscriber and one to a paid subscriber. The paid subscriber will also get a bonus mystery gift. Entering is easy! Just leave a comment below, letting me know how you engage in self-care. For me, writing in this newsletter helps, lol, as does chatting with friends, watching cartoons, and lighting candles. The giveaway ends September 1st!
We’ve raised over $10,000!
My dark romance novel is fully funded, and we reached a stretch goal! Thanks to this Kickstarter, we’ll have manga panels added to the book. If you’d like to hear my excitement, check out this tiktok 😆. I appreciate you all so much!! Raising 5-figures as a new novelist is incredible to me, and I can’t wait to get the book in everyone’s hands. We have three more days left! And I’m pushing until the very end!

I engage in self care by doing my nails, shopping, and light candles!
For my self care I like to crochet, read, play video games and listen to my music! Just to go into another world for a little bit.
