I beat myself up—A LOT. I’m terrible at logistics. Forgetful AF. Horrible at networking. And my social anxiety keeps me stuck at home and up at night. But I’m not the only person on this planet with unsavory traits. We all have things we would change about ourselves if we could. So, why hate yourself for it?
I know you can’t just snap your fingers and become a beacon of confidence and self-love. It’s hard to escape the clutches of depression and negative thought patterns. But all you can do is try 🤗 You’ve got this! Here are a few ways I wiggle out of my own thoughts of self-hatred.
Think of three people you adore
Who are three people you love? Your partner? Your mom? Your best friend? Maybe someone you admire?
Now, do you hate them when they mess up? Do you call them names? No, you give them grace because you love them. Consider yourself a person you adore. Give yourself grace!
Talk to yourself out loud
You can’t always control your thoughts. But you can control what comes out of your mouth. If your brain says you’re no good, open your mouth and say the opposite. Look in the mirror and say, “I’m beautiful”. Tell yourself that you forgive yourself. Eventually, your brain will follow suit!
Do things you love
I’m obsessed with collecting dolls. So when I’m down…I head to Target and buy a doll! Or go to Barnes & Noble and read a book. Or grab a pink drink from Starbucks. When you’re in self-hate mode, run to your happy places!

Updates and things:
I’ve been getting emails and DMs about publishing and marketing. I already have a free self-publishing guide on my website, but I also created a 19-page marketing guide for when you have no budget, just vibes!
I’ve been going viral on Twitter, and I doubled the Amazon sales for my book, as well as increased my following count on every platform. All for zero dollars. I outline everything I’ve done in this guide and, as a bonus, I also included my personal grant tracking spreadsheet to help you get freeee money! I do everything on a budget, which means I’m always figuring things out on my own, so I know how it is and want to help as much as I can.
Giveaway!
The upgraded subscriber giveaway is live! One subscriber will win a $50 gift card at the end of the month. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. I’ll be doing this monthly! Thanks so much for reading my thoughts, sharing your thoughts, and making me feel less alone.
How to Escape Death
There are only about 80 signed hardcover preorder spots for How to Escape Death!
If you’ve been following along with my How to Be a Better Adult pre-orders, you know it’s been hectic for me 😆. I took on wayy too many orders (plus other hiccups). This time around, I’m limiting the available amount. After they’re gone, they’re gone!

Thank you so much for this post Jacque 🙏🏽!! I really needed to see this because lately, I’ve been hating myself. Although I finally left my toxic work environment, I’m still damaged from the negative comments about my work performance. The comments felt like an attack on my character. So I’m gonna try these tips ♥️
Thank you for this post. Also, I love pink drinks from Starbucks so reading that bit really made my day.
