Hey everyone. My dad passed away this week.
My family isn’t online or prone to oversharing like me, so I won’t say a whole lot out of respect for everyone. But if you’ve read my book, How to Be a Better Adult, you know the main character feels immense pressure to live up to her dad’s expectations and make his sacrifices worth it. The father in my book was stern, and while it’s a work of fiction, I know there are some parallels to my life and that’s not what I want people to remember. I want to make sure that I share a complete picture of my dad and the ways he’s influenced me:
He was an entrepreneur, so you can see where I get it from.
He was a counselor and helped people through tough times. Something I try/am trying to do as well.
If he felt wronged, he was willing to burn everything down until he felt things were rectified. I definitely carry this trait with me 😆
He had an animated laugh, something I took from him. And through him, I learned that I could cut tension with humor.
Because of my dad, I’ve always reached for the highest heights, even when people don’t believe in me. Because of him, I keep going 👊🏾 and I will continue until I know I’ve made him proud.
Anyway, I just wanted to share!
Next week’s newsletter will be back to the usual.
My condolences
