Beyoncé was robbed & other thoughts.
Black excellence is often overlooked by jealous powers-that-be
Listen, I really don’t care how you feel about Beyoncé. She’s been a superstar in her industry for decades, continually breaking records, shifting the culture, and elevating her peers by simply standing beside them—she deserves her accolades.
But for a fourth time, she’s been snubbed for Album of the Year at the Grammy’s. And for an album as transformative and celebrated as Renaissance? Why? Can’t say, but it feels eerily similar to hard-working Black women in the corporate world who are overlooked for opportunities, treated poorly by jealous co-workers/management, and held to a much higher standard of excellence than their non-Black peers.
And I’ll leave it at that.
Lizzo & Her “Hard Launch”
If you’re a human on the internet, then you’ve seen how people online have bullied Lizzo, used her as an “example” on toxic podcasts, and scrutinized her every move. According to them, Lizzo needed to act a certain way, hold herself a certain way, and be a certain way if she ever hoped to find love….
…and I’m sure she laughed at all those comments while cuddled up with her boo, who she recently “hard launched” to the world!
I chatted a bit about how laughable it is to change yourself to “catch” a man on Youtube. These woman-hating podcasters are very loud on the internet, but in real life, when a person loves you, they love you. There’s nothing you need to change or alter to “catch them”. Just be your unique, best self and the right partner will be intoxicated by your aura and drawn to your light.
I rather my awkward laugh and tendency to hyper-fixate on my hobbies scare away the wrong partner, than change myself to attract someone who isn’t my vibe. I’m so happy for Lizzo!
Am I Worried About My Digital Footprint?
Because of the release of How to Be a Better Adult [hardcovers shipping 2/7!], I’ve been very vocal online about my hatred for Corporate America. Am I afraid that no company will ever hire me again? 🥹
