2023 was a rollercoaster with high highs and harrowing lows. But now it’s time for ✨balance✨. It’s time to choose peace—let’s do it together!
Here are some exercises and mantras that I hope will help as you move into the new year.
I truly believe in the power of the pen.
The goals and dreams I’ve written down have come true, one after the other, in a way that continues to blow my mind. Sometimes I have to army crawl through bullsh*t, or wade through pools of my own misery to get it. But they materialize or come full circle nonetheless.
Write down your wants.
You don’t have to share them with everyone like I do. But writing down your goals and dreams makes them real. They become a tangible thing outside of your own mind. And the repetition in writing will inspire your thoughts and your actions.
Here are some cute journals if you don’t already have some!
Make a vision board
Use Canva (or any collage tool) to create a visual representation of 2024. Make it large enough to use as a desktop background, or vertical to be used as a phone wallpaper. That way, your goals will stare back at you every time you look at your device. Here’s what my 2023 board looked like (made in Dec 2022):
Clearly, I was trying to manifest some money, LOL, but I also desired a career as a writer. I didn’t realize how badly I wanted it until I looked back at this collage. And now? I’m a professional writer. I write for myself as an indie novelist. I write here in this newsletter every week. And I officially have comic writing credits.
Now, here are my 2024 boards!
More money, more writing opportunities, and more solo travel will be coming my way in 2024!
Make a list of your loudest supporters.
In recent years, I’ve learned who actually cares about me vs. who cares about having access to me. I’ve also seen who doesn’t care about me at all! But instead of focusing on those who weren’t there, I’m making a list of people who deserve my full attention in 2024. You all (yes, you) are on my list.
I want to put even more effort into this newsletter. I want to give more gifts away. And I want to be more helpful, rather than lamenting week after week. I know many of you have told me you relate to my Sadgurl musings, so I won’t stop sharing when I feel called to. But there will be more balance!
It’s proven that gratitude leads to a happier, healthier life, so this year, I want to show gratitude to the people who mean the most to me.
Inspiration for an amazing 2024
Tired of gatekeepers, this artist planned his own art exhibition and made $24,000 in one night
Let’s embody this kind of gratitude in 2024
This is not motivational by any means, but it’ll make you laugh, and sometimes that’s enough!
Shout out to everyone who downloaded How to Be a Better Adult! For those who ordered a physical book, hardcovers are arriving today—finally! So I can start shipping 👊🏾 Please take photos with your books and share them with me on social media!
If you got this far, share your goals in the comments!
